WAG ULTRA EXHIBIT I

UPDATE:  We have additional display space for small pieces.  Feel free to enter works under 24″ too… We can pretty much take anything up to 10′ now that the extra small works space is confirmed.  If you have already entered and want to add an additional piece and pay via Paypal, you may send the $5/piece to from your Paypal account using the “Send money” feature, or mail a check for the additional to the same address in the prospectus.  This is an opportunity to be juried in to an amazing display space (Pauahi Tower’s gorgeous travertine lobby with soaring ceilings and a beautiful, spacious Koa display case) and to place your work on display for a longer term exhibit with the goal of selling some of our member’s larger pieces.  There are no awards, but the proceeds benefit our educational grants.  We are looking for original work that is for sale only.  The larger the piece is, the more likely it is to be selected for display (up to 10′ in the largest dimension is acceptable).  We can take some smaller works, but this will be competitive.  3D work is welcome and has unusually good display cases with glass protection – 3D work 48″ and less recommended.  All work must be corporate-friendly (meaning no controversial, religious, political, etc… art). Please visit the exhibit page below to download the prospectus - entries are due 2/24/18.http://windwardartistsguild.org/wag-ultra-show-i/ (which will only be available until the show is hung)

The cafe serves great food and often features WAG artists.  Spencer Chang was featured in August, and Wendy Roberts and Marti Rounds displayed work in July,  and Sherree McKellar was the first in the new show schedule in June, kicking off a new format of monthly art displays by talented local artists that is managed on a volunteer basis by Sherree McKellar.  Many thanks to her for finding and scheduling the talented artists who show at Kalapawai! You can expect a steady stream of excellent shows under her guidance.

WAG in MidWeek

The awards given by WAG were covered in the Midweek paper. Here is the link to the newspaper article again for those who want to see all the photos and read more: http://midweek.com/pdf/Windward/2017/0308/ Please view page 4 to begin reading the article. It looks like the screenshot below... [caption id="attachment_532" align="aligncenter" width="248"] WAG in Midweek[/caption] WAG board members Don Johnson, Suzanne Barnes, MaryAnne Long, Roger Tinius, and Wendy Roberts spent a couple of hours selecting awards, which was certainly a tough task – there were many talented artists in the display. The representatives from the board chose 12 young artists to award $50 each in order to encourage their development as artists. Don Johnson gave out a special award to an incredible fashion piece in his wife’s honor, and he and MaryAnne Long matched WAG funds to assure we could grant more awards for encouraging our next generation of artists. Thank you Don and MaryAnne for the generosity extended to our next generation of artists!

57th Annual Member Show is on display

Windward Artists Guild is holding its 57th annual Member’s show at the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden Gallery October 2 – 28, 2016. Please join us at our reception Saturday, October 8 from 5:00 – 7pm. Below is a preview/overview of the show.  The works are beautiful especially in person, and each piece is carefully placed in order to harmonize with the art next to it.  Cynthia Schubert (who organized the exhibit and directed the placement of art on the wall),  MaryAnne Long (who assisted the entire day), and the members who helped hang the art did a wonderful job. Thank you to all our excellent  volunteers and to the members who are displaying their talents.  WAG hopes our visitors enjoy the show!
